Ortega River Run
Event Logo
The Ortega River Run is the fourth oldest race in Jacksonville, the 2021 race being its 43rd year. The event includes a1-Mile Fun Run & 5-Mile Grand Prix Race where participants receive a medal and a shirt. While interning at Wingard, I designed the logo for the 2021 race.
Concept
The sponsor of the event, Ascension St. Vincent's, wanted the logo to include the columns of the Ortega Bridge and the Jacksonville skyline in the final design, elements that have been consistent in previous years. For the 2021 logo, the sponsor wanted the inclusion of purple, since that is part of their visual identity.

First Drafts
The shirt color was already determined before the logo was designed, so while designing different assets and layouts, the heather blue shirt was kept in mind. Initial designs included different interpretations of the Ortega Bridge. One color scheme was developed at first so there was more focus on the composition. After discussing these designs with the creative director, the third design was approved for the next step. The main notes were to add the Ascension St. Vincent's logo, simplify the bridge elements and offer different color palettes.

Client Presentation
Building upon the approved design, two more color options were developed. For the client presentation of the logo, three color logos with t-shirt logos and a one color option were shown for final approval. Ascension St. Vincent's approved the second color option for the final logo for the Ortega River Run event.

Color Option 1
The original color scheme used to layout the composition used an analogous color scheme to match the blue shirt the logo will be printed on.
Color Option 2
Purples from the Ascension St. Vincent's logo were incorporated for a more colorful and contrasted color palette
Color Option 3
Purples from the Ascension St. Vincent's logo were incorporated more subtly, there is more emphasis on sunset colors.
